Oral examination for regular applicants to the master's course (updated: August 31, 2020)

Oral examination consists of two parts, which are general interview (specialization and purpose of enrollment) and assessment on basic knowledge about mathematics and fundamentals of computer science. The following is the explanation about the implementation of the assessment on basic knowledge.
  • Examinees are asked to choose two of the five areas at the beginning of the assessment. The areas of the assessment and the scope of questions for each area are as follows:
  •   Area
Analysis Function and its limit, Limit of a sequence, Infinite series, Analysis in one variable, Analysis in several variables (partial derivative, multiple integral).
Linear Algebra Matrix, Determinant, Vector space, Linear mapping, Kernel and image, Inner product spaces, Eigenvalues, Eigenvectors, Matrix diagonalization.
Discrete Mathematics and Logic Set, Function, Relation.
Fundamentals of Programming Control Structure (Conditional Branch, Loop, etc.), Data Type (Character String, Array, etc.), Data Structure (Stack, Queue, List, Tree, etc.), Function, Procedure, Recursive Call.
Logic and Circuit Propositional Logic, Boolean Algebra, Karnaugh Map, Combinatorial Circuit.
  • Interviewers will ask one question from each of the selected areas. There are five minutes to answer each question. The answering time will include time to read the questions.
  • When selecting subject areas, it is not allowed to check the questions in advance to find out what question will be asked if a certain area is selected. Also, once an examinee has selected the areas, the examinee cannot change it later.
  • Examinees will be required to answer the questions in an oral manner. However, for online supplementary exams, text chat features of Zoom may be used if necessary.
  • Examinees may use notepapers and writing instruments for calculating their answers. However, notepapers may not be presented as a substitute for oral answers.
  • In addition to notepad and writing instruments, examinees may have the following items on hand during the examination. Any other items on hand will be considered as cheating.
    • An exam voucher, a watch (limited to those with a timing function only), glasses, handkerchiefs, tissue paper, and eye drops. However, items on which mathematical formulas and the like are printed will be excluded.
  • Examinees are not allowed to communicate with anyone other than admissions officers and interviewers while waiting for or during the examination. Also, examinees are not allowed to use computers or smartphones while the examination is being conducted. However, for online supplementary exams, operating computers and smartphones are permitted to deal with communication and equipment problems.
